Sea Port Products, QVD, Brent Redmond Logistics Join Forces:
LEADING NORTHWEST COMPANIES SUPPORT PEACETREES VIETNAM
WITH VIETNAMESE SEAFOOD DONATION
Seattle, Washington USA—Seafood from Vietnam takes center stage on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at a fundraiser for the humanitarian organization, PeaceTrees Vietnam (www.peacetreesvietnam.org), thanks to a donation from four inter-related seafood and logistics companies that united—for the first time—behind the organization’s major fundraiser.
Led by Kirkland, Washington-based importer, Sea Port Products (www.Cport.net), the effort brought together two Vietnamese producers—Black Tiger shrimp producer, Minh Hai Jostoco of Ca Mau Province; and Striped Pangasius producer, QVD (www.qvdseafood.com), with offices in Bellevue, Washington, and Dong Thap Province—and the logistics company, Brent Redmond Logistics of Fife, Washington.
The 14th Annual fundraising event will be held today at the Washington Athletic Club, where Executive Chef Will McNamara plans to serve Black Tiger Prawns & Green Papaya Salad as the appetizer and Striped Pangasius Loins with Ginger-Tomato Jam as the entrée. In addition to the donated seafood, logistics company Brent Redmond Logistics donated transport of the seafood from the Port of Long Beach to Seattle.
The donation of the seafood from Vietnam was both symbolic and generous, said PeaceTrees Vietnam’s Executive Director, Blair Burroughs. “Many of our donors and supporters are aware of our organization’s mission, but they are largely unaware of Vietnam’s role in growing food, including great seafood. We were deeply touched and delighted with the work that these companies have done to s make sure our supporters and donors got a taste of Vietnam at this important fundraising event.”
The donation was spearheaded by Sea Port’s marketing and import manager, Jenni Davis, who works in the company’s Kirkland, Washington, office. She became interested in helping PeaceTrees Vietnam after meeting founder Jerilyn Brusseau earlier this year. “We want to inspire others to give generously to support the work PeaceTrees is doing in Vietnam today,” said Davis.
“Our world is connected in ways people do not even realize,” Davis said. “We believe it is important to give back to the people who produce the seafood that we import and sell to restaurants and supermarkets throughout the USA—in this case, Vietnam.” She added, “Our combined donation means that more of the money raised at the event can be used to accomplish the mission of PeaceTrees in Vietnam—clearing the country of landmines and bombs, as well as providing mine risk education.”
